When to Call for Urgent HVAC Service
The system will not run and indoor temperatures are rising quickly.
The equipment runs but is not producing useful cooling during hot weather.
Turn the system off if it is safe to do so and call for help. If there is smoke, fire, or an immediate hazard, contact emergency services.
Water around indoor HVAC equipment can damage ceilings, floors, or walls and should be addressed promptly.
A breaker that repeatedly trips may indicate an electrical or equipment problem. Do not continue resetting it.
Loss of cooling can become more urgent when older adults, young children, or people with heat-sensitive health needs are in the home.

While You Wait
- Confirm the thermostat is set to COOL and below room temperature
- Check whether the HVAC breaker is tripped once; do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips again
- Check whether a very dirty filter is restricting airflow
- Note any unusual noises, smells, ice, water, or error codes
- Close blinds and curtains on sun-exposed windows
- Use ceiling or portable fans if safe
- Avoid ovens, dryers, and other heat-generating appliances
- Hydrate and relocate to a cooler place if indoor temperatures become unsafe
